Four of us just got back from the most exciting bow hunt we've ever had. We bagged nine hogs in two days of pure excitement. Merle and Vanessa put on a first class hunt and do everything thing they can to make you feel welcome. If you want to put a spark back in your bowhunting, visit the Texas S. This is a must for your bowhunting experience. Robert Nelsen, Kansas

We hunted at the Texas-S yesterday. It was a great hunt! Merle makes you feel as if you have known him forever and is a real pleasure to be around. The ranch is super! Lots of game, and something for everyone. I recommend them 100 percent! Look for the story coming out in The Real Hunters Journal. Kris Jones bowtec@valliant.net

We had a blast on a one day hunt my daughter and son in law went, we got five hogs and look forword to next year. My daughter got some fine pics. of all kinds of game, at one time I thought reporters was with us.lol. We saw hogs five mins after we got in the woods. Merle is a great host and he has the hogs. I bet we saw 150 hogs on that day, of every size.It is a good place to start a new bow hunter out and to brush up on ones stalking skills. So if you are looking for a place to go and hunt and have alot of fun try it out you will be glad you did. Merle and Vanessa thanks for a great place to hunt and we will be back. I arrived home last night about 11:00pm from our Hog Hunt at the Texas S Ranch in Clarksville, TX. It was the most awesome time I have ever had hunting hogs. I left the cabin at 7:00am on Thursday morning with bow in hand, clad in camo rainsuit, and wondering what in the world I was doing out here. Three of us entered the gate walked 300 yards and there we saw our first herd of hogs. We stalked them for about an hour and then changed tatics. We decided to still hunt underneath a group scrub oaks that had good hog sign. It proved to be a great decision for me. The three of us were spread about 50 yards apart watching no less than 25 hogs feed past us. Brain decided to make his way to a tree stand not too far away while me and Jeff watched two more black hogs make their way up towards us from the creek botton. They were both too small. As these two hogs were feeding away from us a larger hog came up out of the bottom. He was a good sized spotted hog. I began to work my way down towards him as he had his head down rooting under some more scrub oaks. I then crouched down on both knees in the gumbo clay mud and waited for him to present a shot. He was 26 steps away from me when he turned towards me with a quartering shot. I took careful aim, launched my 125 grain broadhead, and watched the arrow bury deep into him just in front of the right shoulder. He bolted like a scolded dog for 17 steps and crashed...deader than a hammer. He was a nice boar that weighed in at 140lbs. If anyone out there is considering hunting the Texas S you better get it together and get on out there. There were three in our group and we shot six hogs. I shot a 140lb and a 230lb hog. Jeff shot a 105lb and I think a 160lb hog. Brain shot a 100lb and a 185lb hog. Hey folks it rained for two days and the hogs moved like crazy. You gotta go. Hey Merle and Jim...all I got say is...You guys are da Man! Thanks for a great time. Reverend Mark A. Henson AKA "the preacherman"

My husband Bret, father-in-law, son, and three friends of theirs just returned from your ranch 2 days ago. By the stories they told and the video they took, it was apparent that they had an absolute blast. None of them had ever been hog hunting before, but I know without a doubt they will definitely go again next year. They killed 11 hogs and a record book ram. Next time, the little woman is going along. (If I can stick a deer, I can stick a hog) Not only your ranch, but Merle and Jason, made a huge impression on them. They wish to thank you for making their first hog hunting experience one they will all never forget. Looking forward to meeting you all next year. Pam Meese, Festus, Mo.

I just got back from my first hog hunt. Wow, what a blast!! I don't think that you can find any better people than the folks at Texas "S". Merle, Vanessa and Jason did a great job of making us feel welcome. One thing is for sure, you will see a lot of hogs! I was able to kill three the first day of hunting. The best kill was a shot I put on a 75# hog from about 10 feet! The hog was running right at my buddy, then changed directions and came at me! Bad move for the hog. My Easton carbon Epic's with 100 gr. 3 blade Muzy's back by the firing power of my Mathews Q2XL, was no match for the hog. The poor hog was dead before it knew what happened. I would recommend Texas "S" to any hunter wanting to have some fun and the chance to get into a lot of hogs. I also took home a nice hog to have mounted. Texas "S" is the total pakage, we will be back!!!! Jeff Owens Kansas jbranger2003@yahoo.com

I don't know what I can say that has not already been said before. Merle, Vanessa and Jason are what sets this hunt apart from all others. Their hospitality and generosity is what will keep my group coming back every year. I had the opportunity to harvest many animals and the spot and stalk action was bar none the best. I left the Texas S with plenty of meat for the freezer but more importantly I left with wonderful memories of some of the nicest people I have had the honor of sharing a camp with. Merle, your calendar is looking pretty full, so don't be surprised if I just show up with my tent on your front lawn just to visit..Semper Fi Chris Schulz Kansas

Our hunting party of three bagged seven hogs in 2 days. We had a great time and plan on comeing back we would recommend Texas S to anyone looking for adventure. My 11-year old daughter made her first bow kill on the first day from about 15 yards and shot her next hog on the next day. She was shooting a compound with pse carbon force tipped with 125gr thunderhead. My buddy and myself were shooting traditional bows. We both bagged hogs on the first day. The last day of our hunt was really windy and the hogs kept getting our sent but one of the hogs wasn't so lucky. Thanks to Merle,Vanessa, and Mr.Jim for a great time! Kendall, Wes, Haley, and Dylan

We just got back home from hunting at the Texas-S and we had a blast. The hogs at Texas-S are for real! First time ever stalking a hog and we really enjoyed it. If hog hunting at the Texas-S doesn't get your blood pumping than nothing will. This was a GREAT hog hunt. My partner killed a 262 pound boar that was the biggest and meanest hog I have ever seen. We highly recommend hunting with Merle and Vanessa. They will make it a memory you won't forget.

If you are looking for a place to shoot and still have to hunt your animal, then this is it. I recommend taking plenty of arrows. We were even chased by a few of these nasty critters. I have hunted here many times over the years and have always had a wonderful experience, but this last hunt will always be remembered and never forgotten. I brought my son here for his first bowhunt and he had the time of his life. I purchased him a bow one week before we came here and he had been practicing for hours every day. Merle set us up on stand #3 early before daylight, I set up the video camera and we were ready. As I heard Merle on his 4 wheeler in the background bringing in the corn to spread, We began to see pigs on the move. Merle arrived and spread the corn and was gone about one minute when the pigs started moving in for my son's first shot. He picked out the one he wanted and the broadhead was shaking so much I didn't know if he would hit it or not. He released and made a excellent shot. I know this sounds corny to someone who doesn't have kids, but I've got to tell the ones who do. I felt like mama did on his first day of kindergarten. I was so happy, proud, and thankful for all of Merles help on making this last weekend one both of us will remember for the rest of our lives. Thank You Merle.

we arrived at the ranch tired from driving.merle opened up the bunkhouse and started up the conversation and a few minutes later there wasnt a tired person in the group. that night i dont think anyone hardly sleept a wink. the next morning everyone had the shakes like they drank way to many cappuchinos as they stepped onto the hunting fields. two minutes into the hunt and we were seeing hogs. a half hour later one of our buddies was treed by a mean sow. an hour later i killed my first hog. talk about excitement! the next couple of days we managed to kill 13 hogs, get treed a total of 5 times, get muddy as can be, eat some fresh pork, meet some wonderful people, and listen to hours of merle and cooters stories. all i can say is THANK YOU, and we`ll be back-----Mike & friends

Missouri poor boys just got back from the ranch and had a great time. 8 hunters took 21 hogs. Unbelievable. My second time and it was better than the first. The hogs were everywhere and seemed a little more ticked off this time. We had a lot of close encounters and some great stories. I will say one thing, Merle says take a quartering away shot and he's not lying, I shot a big mean boar right behing the shoulder and the arrow actually bounced off the shield. Got it on video. Next shot took him down, so don't underestimate your shot placement unless you want that big ol boy runnin you down. Merle and Vanessa we had a great time. Hope to see you again real soon. Hey Merle and Vannessa, We arrived at the ranch on Friday,Feb 25,2005 from Southeast Missouri. We unloaded our stuff and shot our bows to make sure they didn't {and we didn't} lose any accuracy from the bumpy ride there. We arrived early enough to go out that afternoon to eat at Merles' brothers resturant, and I must say the food was great. Before we left to eat,Merle had a hog break it's neck while in the holding pen.He asked us if we wanted to butcher it, well it didn't take long for a few of the guys to get it in the smoker. We had some good pork the next day. 10 of us hunted the next two days and killed a total of 30 hogs!Unfortunatly the group of guys that were there the week before us killed all the large hogs,so hopefully next year we can return the favor.HA!HA! There was plenty of mean hogs left, even one that probably didn't weigh more than 30lb's charged one of us but it soon decided it wasn't as big as it thought it was and ran off.Merle got a nice mean boar in Saturday and let him lose on Sunday.Myself and Wayne decided to track him down, we found him out in the open which was not good for us. He soon charged Wayne then turned to me and I choked on a head shot. We lost his trail but the hog soon ran into Ryan, He shot but took too much of a lead. The arrow went thru its snout and out its jaw and into his leg. That REALY ticked off the boar which put Ryan up a tree in a hurry. The hog soon met his fate a few minutes later when I regained my composer from my poor shot earlier, I tracked him down and found it in a mud woller.I snuck within about 30 yards and stuck an arrow thru his heart. He then ran at least 30 feet before collapsing. Tuters' Son-in-law was chased by a hog that ended up chewing on his sock cap that flew off during his run for a tree. Well to put this way, if you want to have a great time hunting hogs or exotic game Texas"S"Ranch is the place to go!!! See in Feb. 2006 Merle THE Southeast Missouri Boys

This is another Mike Robinson not the one in the picture. Looking foward to our trip in March. Hope it's as great as the last trip. Four of us took twelve hogs in three days. We had five trophy hogs the biggest was 340 pounds. My family and friends look foward to my trips or I guess the pig roasts that come afterwards. Thanks Merle and Vanessa

Dear merl and vanessa, By now you guys are like family to us, and as usual we are bringing along one new guy for bait. He is very exited to be going with us on this hunt, but has no idea what we are getting him into. He wants one good trophy hog and a meat hog, so please have at least one BIG & BAD boy out there for him to mount when he is done working it over with his new knife from the knife ferry. the rest off us just need some good meat hogs with lots of fight in them. Love from, Hog hunter, Sasguatch, and Gopher. see you on july 1st, its going to be fun!

Merle and Vanessa,

I want to thank you for helping make my first pig hunt (and first harvest
with a bow) a success.  Your hospitality is very appreciated by all of us.
I hope to be able to return again next year.  It was an experience I will
never forget (especially being chased up a tree!)  Here are some pictures of
the big boar I took and one with all the guys.  Thanks again for making it
memorable for all of us!

Merle and Vanessa,

I didn’t think I could have a better time than the last time I was at your place in November of 2003 but I was wrong.  I had a great time.  You two work so hard to get our hogs for us and you are so accommodating.  The lollipop hog and the globe trotter hog we so aptly named will be memories treasured for many years to come.  If anyone is viewing this in the guest book and are considering a hunt at the Texas S Bowhunting Ranch you really ought to give it a try.  It’s a great place, with good down to earth folks running it at a very reasonable price.  Until next time you folks take care!
